Word of warning though these razors are protected like your Gillette Fusion Blades. It will take a little practice and a few nicks along the way but once you master it you won't get a better shave. Church Times

Unlike here where the church ceremony is concluded by 2pm abroad it can often by 6pm before the ceremony begins. If there are going to be alot of young kids or elderly guests it is worth keeping this in mind.

3. Suits

If it is going to be a hot don't dress groom and groomsmen in three piece suits. Light and airy suits are the only way if you don't want them passing out from heat exhaustion.

4. Church Dress Code

Some churches abroad can have a stricter dress code than here in Ireland. Priests have been known to refuse entry to people with dresses they deem to short, tops that are too low cut or even if shoulders are exposed the insist on a shawl/scarf to cover up with.

5. Venue Music

DJ's and bands at Irish Weddings often go on until 2-3 AM, however it will be worth checking with your venue what time the music ends at. Particularly in light of traditionally later wedding starts where the reception might only start at 8-9 PM with party finishing up at midnight.

6. Beach Wedding

If you are going for a beach wedding ensure that you hire a private beach. You don't want some randomer in undersized Speedo's to be in the background ruining your wedding photos or wedding video.

7. Wedding Planner

The most important thing of all is to hire a wedding planner. Even if you are fluent in the native tongue you will not known the ins and outs of a wedding abroad. A wedding planner will have contacts with reputable caterers, hotels, bars, restaurants, wedding videographers & photographers etc. We recommend checking out Heffernan Travel Weddings Abroad who offer all in one packages.

Who Says Irish Men Can't Be Romantic

An imaginative and romantic Irishman has set the bar pretty high for proposals around the country (and indeed the world) with this innovative video which is sure to bring a tear to your eye. Dubliner Gavin Fogarty only went and recorded daily snippets of life with his girlfriend Clara Burke's over the past eight months, and edited it together into a truly emotive montage. The adorable couple are seen going about their daily lives, from cooking dinner, cuddling up on the couch watching TV, and

The adorable couple are seen going about their daily lives, from cooking dinner, cuddling up on the couch watching TV, and petting their cat, with a song by the Delorentos providing the perfect soundtrack.

It all winds forward to Gavin in a jewellery shop and Clara's initial confused look until all is revealed and he produces the ring and pops the question.

Taylor Swift Not A Bad Wedding Singer To Perform At Your Wedding

A Real Classy Gesture By Miss Swift.Taylor Swift didn't let her break up with Calvin Harris get in the way of making a dream come true for one New Jersey couple. The 26-year-old Grammy winner surprised bride and groom Kenya Smith and Max Smith by showing up at their wedding and performing an acoustic version of her 2014 hit, The popular wedding song 'Blank Space.' If you relax then everyone else will too.

Perhaps one of the most stressful parts of the run up to your wedding day is the amount of needless and irrational worrying you do about other people. Will they enjoy the day? What main course they will go for? How they will feel about the ceremony? Where they will stay? etc.

One of my oldest friends sent me a message a couple of days ahead of my big day, explaining in great detail how little she cared about the specifics of my wedding, but how much she wished that I would simply, relax and enjoy it all. It was the best gift I could have asked for. If you want a relaxed wedding, you need to genuinely be a relaxed bride.

2. It is not all about you.

This may be a revelation for some, but your wedding day is about you, your other half, your families and your friends collectively. With luck this will be your one and only wedding day and that is not just a big event in your life, it means a lot to those around you too.

After months freaking out about being the centre of attention on the day, this realisation was a huge comfort for me.

3. Hiccups will happen.

There is no such thing as the perfect day. My bridesmaids almost got lost on the way to the church because the lovely rustic road signs we had painstakingly painted were simply too small to be seen from a car going at any normal speed; my veil kept getting caught in the carpet in the church and half way through the ceremony I spotted that the candles I had made a mammoth expedition out of finding were never lit.

If you had told me any of those things that day before I may have had a meltdown, but the day of the wedding I was so happy that I saw them for what they truly were- insignificant.

4. Everyone loves a wedding.

When a friend of mine told me to be sure to keep the week before my wedding relatively free for unannounced visitors I immediately panicked - there was work to be done, nails to be painted and a day of lying still and braless (following perhaps the most important spray tan of my life) to consider.

However, the lead up to our wedding day was filled with such an outpouring of love, kindness and good wishes from distant relatives, former colleagues, school friends, neighbours and even perfect strangers that all of my more superficial concerns soon faded away.

5. Nobody’s a critic.

No one is out to get you. There are no covert fashion policemen or women in your wedding party hell bent on rating everything from your dress and venue to their overall experience out of 10. You've just spent too much time watching Four Weddings on TV over the last year. As long as you're happy with your choices, nobody else’s opinion should matter.

We made a few choices, which could be considered controversial in the traditional sense and three weeks later if anyone had an issue, I have yet to hear about it.

6. It is an emotional rollercoaster.

You never know what way you're going to react until your wedding day is upon you. Having spent months bawling my eyes out every time I saw Say Yes To The Dress and enjoying a lifelong reputation for being a particularly ugly crier, I was prepared for an onslaught of tears on my wedding day.

Save for a few wobbles, the convulsions did not manage to take a hold. What I was not prepared for was the zen-like happiness that consumed me once all of the plans we had made began to kick seamlessly into action. Tip: For those few wobbly moments I found throwing my head back and swallowing hard particularly effective!

7. It goes by in the blink of an eye.

Everyone says it, but this is because it is so very true. Your wedding day passes so very quickly and there is so much adrenaline and excitement and alcohol floating about that you will only remember small snippets of it afterwards. I was really hesitant about getting awedding videographer at first, viewing it as a tad lavish and/or surplus to requirements, but I am so glad I was talked around to the idea now.

8. Everyone knows what they are doing.

From your glam squad to your venue coordinator, chances are, as Dr. Phil would say, this isn’t their first rodeo. Unless you are horrendously unlucky, your wedding suppliers will know their stuff inside out and be two steps ahead of you all day. I went with my gut at every turn throughout the planning process and thankfully ended up with a dream wedding team, who could not have been more helpful, hard-working, insightful and on the ball.

9. You need some headspace.

A friend who got married last year advised me to take at least 15 minutes away during the day with my groom to calm down and take a short breather from what can be an overwhelming day. These few minutes were so valuable and gave us really time to take in the wonder of the day together, before returning to party the night away.

10. You cannot be both grateful and unhappy at the same time.

The priest mentioned this quote during our marriage ceremony and it really struck a chord with me. After months of worrying that I would turn out to be the worst bride in history, that I would look horrendous, fall up the aisle and become a bridezilla that nobody wanted to be around on the day- I suddenly realised that I was so grateful for everyone I had around me, that nothing could ruin the day, not even me.

Lord Of The Dance Groom & His Mates Perform Amazing Dance At His Wedding

Guests at the wedding of Thomas Martin and Anne Hatfield were in for a treat when the groom and his friends took to the dance floor to perform a specially choreographed set. The groomsmen and groom, who are all former Lord of the Dance cast members, wowed the guests at the wedding in Joliet, Illinois last weekend. Groom Thomas Martin landed the leading role in the wedding performance and was accompanied by his best man Seanie McNicholas, Michael Piotrowski, Gary Collins and Bill O'Hara in the

Groom Thomas Martin landed the leading role in the wedding performance and was accompanied by his best man Seanie McNicholas, Michael Piotrowski, Gary Collins and Bill O'Hara in the dance that roused the crowd.

Aside from his long standing career, the groom also can thank Lord of the Dance for landing him his bride Anne, who played the fiddle in the world renowned show.

Wedding Couple Ask Guest For More Money

Following on from last weeks blog entry about asking for cash as a wedding present imagine getting cash as a present and then asking for more. So how are you going to pay for it?

There was a time when humble weddings were the norm, then, for a few years the entire country lost the run of itself and not only were lavish receptions being thrown with all in sundry on the guest list, but said guests were also expected to cough up with an appropriately extravagant gift.

Then came ‘The Downturn’ and we were all back to basics with thoughtful presents the order of the day. However, ifreports are to be believed, expensive gestures are on the rise again and anyone receiving an invite to a wedding this year, should get ready to splash out on a costly gift or a cash donation for the happy couple.

“Like most couples nowadays, Les and I were living together long before we got married and as we are both working, had everything we needed for the house,” says the 35-year-old project specialist.

“We didn’t put a list out there as personally I think it is a bit presumptuous so we decided to just leave it up to the guests to decide what to give us to celebrate our big day.

“About 80% of them decided to give us money which was really great and I think this is what the majority of people want as a wedding gift. I’m not a person who puts any great value on a designer set of pots or a fancy vase so the fact that the majority of our guests recognised our preference towards a monetary gift, was brilliant and we will use it to help pay for the wedding.”

According to the Dublin woman, receiving cash gifts of around €150 per couple is commonplacenowadays. But while she says she can’t imagine how anyone would want anything other than money, it isn’t the done thing to actually ask for it.

“Weddings are very expensive and being given cash as a present is really preferable, but I think it is something you should leave up to the individual guest,” she says. “I know of people who have created poems in their invitation which include the request for cash and I find that quite rude. Other weddings we’ve been to have something called a ‘Wishing Well’ where people can drop envelopes with money in, but even though I thought about that for a while, Les put his foot down as he said it wasn’t a nice thing to do.”

But while Geraldine says most Irish newlyweds are enjoying a cash windfall after their nuptials, retailing giant, John Lewis says many engaged couples in the UK are still compiling wedding lists and harking after items with exorbitant price tags.

According to a spokesperson, wedding registers are still as popular as ever with many couples compiling lists which tot up to an eye-watering €25,000. Times have changed however, and many lists now feature a ‘honeymoon package’ where guests can donate cash to help pay for the newly-married couple’s sunshine break after the big day is over.

The Maldives, Mauritius and Sri Lanka are the top three destinations of choice for John Lewis customers, with most booking their holiday 10 months before their nuptials.

But rewind a few decades to when Geraldine’s mother Elsa Kelly got married in 1978 and you will find that expectations were a lot lower than many of the young women getting married today.

She was delighted to receive household items from friends and relatives as she and her new husband prepared to set up home together.

“I didn’t have a wedding list when I got married to Gerry in February 1978,” says the 60-year-old creche manager. “The idea of having a list didn’t occur to us as it wasn’t the done thing back in the 1970s — in fact, I would still consider it quite presumptuous to have a list now.

“We received lots of lovely presents from people including bed linen, cookware and china sets. No-one would have thought of giving cash and I think the idea of asking for donations of money is also quite forward and to be honest, a little rude — unless of course, you have been asked directly by a wedding guest if that is what you would prefer.”

Etiquette expert, Tina Koumarianos agrees but says expecting expensive presents or a monetary donation is something which seems to be on the rise.

“Unfortunately cash as a wedding gift is becoming more and more the norm and I think it is tacky,” she says. “Your wedding should be a day of unequalled happiness shared with the people who mean the most to you, not a money-making scheme.

“Speaking to a recent bride was quite an eye-opener for me as she was incensed that having spent an extraordinary amount on the day in question, not to mention the multiple honeymoon destinations, the gift given should reflect the cost of the guest’s seat at the wedding plus a substantial something extra towards the rather large debt she was accumulating for her big day.”

Koumarianos, who is also a panelist on Midday on TV3, says weddings have become competitive:

“It seems that today people just want to outdo what they experienced at their friend’s wedding, because there will be recriminations if they don’t,” she says.

“It’s all about how much it cost for the outfit, the present, not to mention accommodation for the two-to-three-day extravaganza in some back of beyond destination.

“I feel it is in bad taste to extend your desire for cash or particularly large items as wedding gifts beyond immediate family.

“On the other hand, it is polite to have your list cover everything from tea towels to the dinner service so that everyone can afford something without being made to feel inadequate. Although, a wedding list I recently came across had only the less expensive items left as guests were obviously too embarrassed to purchase them.”

Arlene Harris Irish Examiner

Here are some fabulous venues for non-church weddings

Dublin Zoo Not only do you have a unique wedding venue, when you get married at Dublin Zoo, you also have a chance to make a contribution to the conservation of some of the world’s most magnificent animals.Dublin Zoo offers couples an amazing opportunity to say “I Do” at the Zoo.
